Facial Scar Revision
A scar on the face is very different than one elsewhere on the body. Facial scars can be a source of low self-esteem.
When treating facial scars, managing your expectations of what's possible is important. Some people think you can use a laser and erase a scar, but, unfortunately, that is not possible. However, what we can do is significantly alter how a scar fits on your face, making it narrower, hiding it in skin lines, or using other techniques to make it less noticeable and more natural-looking.
Dr. Toriumi spends a lot of time at the outset of scar-revision cases talking to patients about reasonable goals and expectations. It is important for you to understand what is and is not possible. As a patient, it’s critical that you know that though we can’t get rid of a scar, we can vastly improve how it appears on your face. The result –whether it be through surgery, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, application of gels, or a combination of these treatments – can be life-changing. Your self-esteem and peace of mind are integral for a positive outcome.
